Daniel Marshall and Levity

12 May 2008

"Daniel Marshall, who died in 1784, was not formed for brilliancy of talents, but much revered for holy zeal and fervent labor. When he was in company with a circle of preachers, if he discerned too much levity among them, he would say, 'Stop my brethren, and let us examine ourselves, whether we are in a right temper of mind, in case a broken-hearted sinner should come into the room, and ask us the question, what shall I do to be saved? Ye servants of the Lord, pray for me—would it not put us to the blush?'"--John Leland.

John Leland, The Writings of the Elder John Leland and the Events of His Life, Printed by G.W. Wood, 1845, p.594.
